Tyler Perry: The Man

Recently there have been GREAT reports about Tyler Perry circulating. There aren’t many bad ones to be found to counter these on a bad day. But these are quite remarkable. One report says that he donated a new vehicle to a Georgia woman with cerebral palsy after her specially-equipped van was stolen outside Atlanta. Another says that he donated $7,000 to a Ms. Toria Thomas. She was kicked out of her home, and lost her children in the same day. He found her a place to live, paid it in full for a year, and is helping her get her children back.

When people talk about hating this man, they should remember what he does, and I mean ALL OF IT.

23 Year Old Shot Dead by Brooklyn Detective

After seeing pictures of the scene of the incident from many of my NY [Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens] followers on instagram, I decided to talk about how I feel about this situation.  A young 23 year old African American woman was shot and killed yesterday after police chased the stolen car. I bet you want to know what was the probable cause as to why the cops were on her right? Well, according to articles, she ran 3 red lights, hit a minivan that was parked, and tried to put the car in reverse to flee from the scene, all in the stolen car. And when she put the car in reverse, a cop jumped in to try to put the car in park, and a shot was fired.  Witnesses do not know whether the detective meant to kill the young woman, or if his gun went off by accident.  Whatever the case was, the young lady was left out on the street clinging on to life.

I do not know this lady from a can of paint, but I just thought I’ll share this story because it was not only interesting, but I felt like it hit home in so many ways.  Everybody has some one in their family, or know someone who has be in jail, did some illegal things, and continued to do bad things before they had the opportunity to change their ways.  I truly send my condolences and prayers out to the family of the victim.  Not only does this hurt the victim’s family, but it also hurts the community as well.  The young lady who died name shall be concealed from being in this article due to privacy regulations.  There are many versions of this story, you have the news, a detective’s, witnesses, and a parent’s.  This young lady is no longer here to tell her side of the story.

Articles have stated that the victim had 8 arrests on her rap sheet, and she was supposed to go to court today for an attempted murder and kidnapping case that took place May 2011.  It is sad that a life had to end the way it did.

What I don’t like about this story, is that cops will pull out their firearms more quickly than they would put a donut in their mouths.  And they never know the whole story or situation.  If they were going to pull her over for running the red lights and smashing into a minivan, thats all fine and dandy.  But according to witnesses, the victim screamed, “don’t shoot me!”

Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened.  It is happening everywhere.  I think all communities need to pull together, especially in the Urban communities, and get their cities and towns in order.  Young people are dying before they can open their eyes.  These young kids yearn for love, affection, the feeling of being appreciated and wanted, and some parents do not show that.  Not saying that the victim didn’t have those aspects in her life.  But this is a wake up call for everybody!!! We have to get on the ball and have unison as a community.  Our ancestors died fighting for civil rights, to be accepted, so that we could have a better life. And we are all just killing the dream that was planned for us.  It is time to wake up!!! This is not the first time, nor will it be the last! Let’s learn from this!  Just because a person has made a bad decision in their life, does not make them a bad person! But this is just my thoughts, feelings and opinions.  Enough of me ramping, because I am getting a tad bit emotional.  No one deserves to die by the hand of a firearm, but most importantly, no one deserves to bury their child. Sad to say, I hope that her family can find some closure in this incident, and someone can give them some answers.  And again, I send my condolences to the family of the victim.

May you rest in peace…

Just A Few Random Thoughts 6/2/12

So tonight was the first night of the Capital Jazz Fest in Maryland. AWESOME!!!! Tonight, Anita Baker headlined and Bill Cosby opened for her, with Will Downing hosting. Great laughs and GREATER music!

But while I was at the concert, I was sent  a picture of a former school mate. He is a year younger than me, and graduated the year after me. The picture I was sent was of him naked running around the park, HIGH off dust. I don’t even think he realized what was going on. It just broke my heart, because when we were in high school we were kind of close, and he was such a good kid. I would see him every now and then, and make sure he was doing okay. Now he’s just out of his mind, and off ‘that stuff’. It’s really unfortunate. I wonder what has to happen in your mind for you t0 turn to things like that? To lose all of your promise and your future, it’s so sad…. I am beyond grateful that I have my mind and sense, my family, my friends, and my faith…. God is so good.

Is It That Serious? DUDE!!!

So yesterday, I put up a video. It was of Rihanna ‘singing’, and the Divas we know and love are at the end not approving. So my friends and I are having a normal conversation about the singing or the lack there of, and here comes this FULL GROWN MAN, on my page calling women ugly and haters, because we think she can’t sing. Now hold up patna….. Let’s just say it got UGLY. And you know what, I did nothing to stop it. I will not have a man around me, or even on a social network disrespecting me or the women around me. No matter who you are, or where you’re from….

The snippet of Rihanna singing is in this video, followed by the reactions.

So I ask you, is it EVER that serious to get into it, and get disrespectful about someone you’ve never met, probably never will meet, and don’t know? Is it ever that serious to make a fool of yourself in public like that? I think not….

Why Be Offended?

So for the last few days, I’ve been contemplating this question. Why, as a people would we be offended, when most of the images that are put out there are of us acting like animals? Yesterday a video came to WSHH.com of a young girl GIVING THE BUSINESS to another young girl. And it was all over ‘twitter beef’. Subsequently, the young girl is in lock up now facing assault charges. About a week and a half ago, I saw another video from the same website, of an all out brawl in a Polish shop in Chicago after some girls got out of a party. Of course none of them were acting like ladies.

So again, I ask. Why exactly should we be offended when they say things about us, when all we put out about ourselves is garbage? When we rush to the fight with our camera phones ready, yelling ‘Nigga, this is join on World Star’? Why be upset when they say we have no kouf or act right? When clearly, we don’t. When I say this, I’m to talking about the whole of ‘us’, because some of us do. But I think we need to be a little bit more mindful of the images we put out of ourselves. IJS…..

44 Years Later

April 4, 1968… We were rocked as a people. We lost someone who we thought was our hope. He was someone who wanted to see Justice and equality for all, not just African Americans. People forget about his work with the sanitation workers. Some 44 years later, we are a country still separate from the whole. We are looked at as hoods and thugs. We are a people who mourn the loss of a child, who’s name is added to a list of lives that were senselessly lost. We are still inferior in some eyes and in some circles.

We like to think that things have changed, but current events show that things are very much the same. We unfortunately live in a time where you can kill a child, and you can get away with it. We live in a place a hoodie is something makes you suspicious. We live in a country where being brown isn’t something that’s considered beautiful.

When my mother was 17, I don’t think she thought the climate of this country would be where it is today.

#SOTUS (State of the United State)

Ok so, we all know that it’s an election year. The GOP debates/campaigning hasn’t really been about the issues, but more so about bashing one another. And a lot of them have spent some time bashing and disrespecting our President. One, the Kansas speaker of the House sent out an email to his Republican colleagues asking them to join in praying the Psalms 109 prayer for him. Now this is a prayer or vengeance and death.

Verses 8 & 9

‘May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.

May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow’

I don’t see how things like this can be accepted by anyone, especially in disrespecting the President. The State of Georgia is in proceedings, because they don’t want his name on the ballot. They are STILL trying to challenge his citizenship. If they paid attention during the last election, it was proven that he’s a citizen. The last time I checked, Honolulu, Hawaii was apart of the United States. This is CLEARLY just another way to deter the man from getting his job done. The state of the this country she be far more progressed in 2012. It’s a shame that it’s not.

Are you proud to live here?

Childhood Dreams & Practicality

Today, I thought about to when my best friends and I were kids. We used to talk about what we wanted and the thinks we would buy with the piles and piles of money we would have in our basements. We talked about the Hummers we would by and the mansions we would build. We described the perfect man we wanted, and the perfect number of kids we wanted….. THEN we grow up. We start to see that those grandiose dreams are great DREAMS, but a lot of them aren’t really practical. We also realize that we have to work damn hard to get a fraction of the dream. Sometimes we get side tracked. Other times, life happens first, and we have to catch up….. I just thought back today to my dreams, when I saw an Escalade drive by me. ( I used to want one of those. And a Hummer too. Lol) Now I’m not saying that none of my dreams can’t be attained now. But what I realize now, is life isn’t a dream, it’s life…… I wish I was a kid again….
