No Church For My Child?

After all of these years, we’ve heard countless stories of priests and pastors having  their issues with children. But NEVER have I ever heard of a church banning children so they’re pastor, who has  plead guilty to lewd acts molestation, can stay at the church. Christ Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church (-_-) in Jacksonville, Florida has banned children from their worship services, because their NEW pastor, Darrell Gillyard , is a registered sex offender and can’t be in the vicinity of children. While he was the pastor at another church, Shiloh Baptist Church, Darrell molested a 15 year old girl, and send inappropriate messages to another girl. Because of his plea agreement, he can not have contact with minors, so his NEW church is taking extreme measures to make sure that he adheres to those rules.

As a Christian, I do believe in forgiveness. That isn’t the problem here. Personally, I have two problems. One, why in the world would a church ban children so a pastor can bring the word? Jesus said bring the children so they can hear the word. Two, I wouldn’t have a problem letting him join my church, by all means come, learn, hear the word. BUT, I would have a problem letting him LEAD my church. That’s just my personal opinion. And then you would BAN children from coming in because of this one man? That hardly makes sense to me.

Am I A Snob?

According to Rick Santorum, President Obama’s push to make college education is an attempt to brainwash people into becoming liberals.

“President Obama wants everybody in America to go to college,” Santorum said. “What a snob! …. Not all folks are gifted the same way. Some people have incredible gifts with their hands…… There are good, decent men and women who work hard every day and put their skills to the test that aren’t taught by some liberal college professor…  That’s why he wants you to go to college. He wants to remake you in his image,” Santorum said. “I want to create jobs so people can remake their children into their image, not his.”

Now, being in school myself, I think I can say that I have met more people who have argued against the cookie cutter liberal opinion than they think. Why shouldn’t education be more accessible? Why shouldn’t classrooms and boardrooms be more diverse? Yes, we very well need garbage men, welders, and carpenters. However, we need CEO, Executive Vice Presidents, Congressmen/women, media moguls, scholarly athletes, the list can go on and on.  I’m not in school to be made in anyone’s image. I’m getting an education, however inaccessible or expensive it may be.

There’s so much to be said about the reactions, and what people think about colleges. College students are being ‘socially engineered’ to be liberals and to think what people want us to think. If the people coming up with these opinion actually went to college, and sat in a library or classroom, they would find out that college gives a student the opportunity to open their mind and find that there are more opinions out there than the one they are fed, and that they can learn from those opinions. I feel sorry for some people, because they never learn…. Maybe they should have went to college…..

It Takes A Special Lady by @Soul_Cypher

I watch you
Everyday in some form or fashion
Representing this family
With passion, commitment and class
Much more than I can say for most
I stand in awe
Of the undying devotion you have
And humbly say
thank you
For answering the call
To join something much greater than ourselves
A family
A brotherhood of men who saw fit to include a unique class of women unlike the ones before her
This woman had to be intelligent, driven, creative, beautiful
But most of all
Special
This woman
Had to serve in silence
And assist in an anonymous fashion
Never seeking the spotlight
But still bring quality to the background
I stand in awe
And humbly say
I appreciate you
In everything you do
Day in and day out
Holding down the brown
Lifting up the gold
And doing both so bold
I thank you
Whether or not you believe it
Some of the success we achieve
Is because you helped us reach it
So I say
Thank you
In the most sincere heartfelt way possible
Because you made a choice
To take the road less traveled
And uniquely pave a new path
And follow in the footsteps
Of a true sweetheart
So in the spirit of Audrey Brooks
I say thank you
For having the courage, determination and overall respect for this fraternity to become an Iota Sweetheart
And for sticking with the ups and downs that come with building a tradition.
From my heart to yours
I love you!
Ow-Ow my Sweetheart!

A poem by brother Daven Oglesby

Ow Sweet Bro!

I Am

I am

a culmination

of sleepless nights

over active thoughts

of creation

I am

statuesque

newly found confidence

faint glimpses of

depression and doubt

I am

faith

prayer in the flesh

scripture moving

I am

music walking and talking

poetry in color

I am

IN LOVE

I am

my number one hater’s

worst nightmare

I am

joy when it’s dark

the immovable force

against the unstoppable object

I am

eyes who have

lived through lakes

of dried tears

I am

ambition wrapped in skin

I am

generations of beauty

forced to think otherwise

I am

coco brown skin

long limbs

and swayed hips

I am

my mother’s child
